I have been receiving a few emails about how I did this page or that page. Sometimes I get to answer, sometimes I don't. And I really apologize for those times. So to make up for that, I will start posting some "How Did I" steps here on a few layouts every now and then. Please forgive me for the lack of photos though. I am not the type who plans pages so everything really just develops. Even I am surprised at the final look of a page I'm working on:) So I only get to take a few pics in the beginning, and then I just try to give you zoomed in pics of the page. Ok, to start with, here is a page I made for Prima recently...
I got a few fabric shapes from Prima and I wanted to play with it. I also had some pictures from our recent trip to Baguio City and it was perfect for the tree fabric shape. Problem is, the pics were not of good quality and the file was small. So I decided to print 3 small photos. I wanted to keep the color cause I wanted to show the beauty of the Pine Trees there.
I figured that if I could mat the photos in a solid color that would make the green pop, and if I could create a fun border around the photos, then maybe it could work. So here is the design process..
1. I needed a smaller border for the grouping of pictures so I cut-out the frame border of the paper and trimmed it to make it smaller.
2. I needed something for the bottom part of the frame and used the border of this journaling pad from Prima.
3. And then here is where I did not have any plans any more! :)
I cut out a few fun shapes like clouds and a sun to extend the scene from the photos. This was also a good way to create a scene that will highlight the fabric tree.
4. To add more color to the page (I had so many greens going on there),
I roughly applied yellow paint with a metal brush. You will notice that
the paint goes thicker. I also always ink the egdes of a hand-cut
pattern to bring more definition to the shape.
5. I tried to find embellishments and elements that would support the design and the story. In this case, I used a couple of brads - a girl and a boy image, and a heart symbol placed right in between my picture and my husband's. I also found a print with two owls from the "Mommy and Me" line from Prima and decided to use that as well.
6. To support the design of the fabric tree, I added a thick lace at the bottom that mimicks the look of soil and grass.
7.Finally, to break the busy design in the lower mid part of the page, I cut a few paper strips and laid it at the top left corner, which was used as lines for the journaling.
Here is the outcome... not planned at all but I loved that I was able to use the pictures I wanted to use and that everything just fell into place. Thanks for looking!... and for reading!:)
