My Favorite Page

As a designer for manufacturers and stores, I would often have to adapt my style to match the products I am working with. I would have simple pages, pages with lots of flowers, pages with no flowers, embellished ones, not so embellished ones, shabby, bright and bold etc. But when I look at my work... this is still the kind of page that becomes a favorite of mine...

I think it's great to experiment with different styles every now and then but I also believe that as an artist (and we all are), we can be confident in staying true to our style. No need to keep on thinking of a new twist every time you make a page. It's all about just letting your creativity and style show through your work.

Happy Today!!

Yes, I am soooo happy today cause it was a big mail day for me! I got several packages today and one of them was my DT box from Fancy Pants! It was crazy, I felt like I was having separation anxiety from my FP stuff. Good thing Bry drove me to the post office so I had the luxury to sit in the front seat of the car WITH my big box of goodies! I love every bit of the new release of Fancy Pants. I had to wait a while for it cause I lived so far away but it was all worth it.

Not to loose time, I already made one layout with the "It's The Little Things" Collection.

Speaking of mail day, I just received word from Mireia Cabonell of Kits de Somni, that the kit I will be working on as a Guest Designer for their site has already been mailed. I can't wait to get this kit. Let me show you why...

Weekly Challenge at Scrappin Studio "Sending Love for Japan"

Hi everyone! Ms. Jaime Lee has a challenge up at the Scrappin Studio blog and this time

it is on "Sending Love/Prayer for Japan". I am sure everyone has heard about the sad news in Japan. This is our opportunity to do something for everyone in Japan.

Here are the rules for the challenge:

1. Scrap either a 12x12 or 8.5x11 layout OR a card OR an altered project 

2. It's an option to scrap with picture or without. 

3. Please include a message or a journal for the said topic. 

The challenge will start from: 21 Mar - 3 Apr 2011 (12am EST) 

A lucky winner will of course get to win RM20 Scrappin Studio Gift Voucher.

For people who take part in this challenge, Jaime is asking that you donate your work to Tomoko Takashi to raise money for the victims in Japan. Tomoko is currently running her own donation campaign together with the Japan Red Cross Society. Please do check on her blog for more info.

Please come along and take on the challenge. Once the challenge ends, if you would like to donate your work to Tomoko, there are 2 options: 1. you can mail your work to Jaime or you can send direct to Tomoko. If you choose to send your work to Ms. Jaime Lee in Malaysia, Scrappin Studio will sponsor the S&H cost to ship all donated projects to Tomoko in Osaka, Japan.

Studio Calico March Kit

It's the first day of summer vacation for my daughter and I did not have to get out of the house! What a treat! So to celebrate, I opened my Studio Calico kit this morning at 10:00 a.m. and scrapped till 5 p.m.

Here are 5 layouts from the Studio Calico March Kit "Into The Woods" with a few items from the add-on kit "Wild Flower"... yup all in one go!

I added the following items: Black vinyl rub-ons, baker's twine, Maya Road Kraft Tickets, and Making Memories flags.

A Play on Rub-ons...

Ok I admit it... I loooove rub-ons. I hoard it. I have terrible handwriting and using rub-ons (specially text type) for journaling makes my life oh so easier. But then, I am always left with scraps of rub-ons and phrases that don't work for my layouts. What to do?? I thought of using my Lily Bee rub-on scraps to add texture to hand-made embellishments (again from scraps) and I loved the result! Here, let me show you how...

1. Select and cut out the rub-ons (text) that you probably won't be using in the near future. It would be nice if you can select different font types and colors.



2. Rub it over your paper scraps. Combine different texts and colors in one piece of paper.


3. Run your paper scraps (embellished with your rub-ons) on your die-cutting machine or paper shapers to create embellishments like tags for example...


Paint a thin layer of gesso or acrylic paint over the text to help blend it with your papers...


You can also paint over your patterned papers before applying the rub-ons if you want it to stand out more like how I did here for my title..

Use your tags as embellishments for your next layout. Here is an example... all papers used are from my Lily Bee scraps (except for the base paper which is Basics by BasicGrey. Who would have thought you can have so much fun with scraps??! I did! Hope you can try this out too.

That's the most I can probably make from one kit till I call it quits. Echo Park Little Girl line is so adorable and so perfect for the photos of my two girls. I made these 7 pages during a crop at Lasting Impression...

A Creative Weekend at Jakarta, Indonesia...

I'm so excited to go to Indonesia this month to teach a two day class on scrapbooking and mixed media techniques for My Scrapbook Ideas. To those of you who are in or are residing near Indonesia, I hope to see you there. The class is exclusively designed for My Scrapbook Ideas Store so even if you attended any of my classes in Malaysia, Singapore, or Brunei, there are still a lot of techniques and applications that you will enjoy. Plus, the materials will contain a lot of the new Prima CHA collection!

Linda Barber, our DT head at Lily Bee issued a fun challenge for us, to create a non-holiday themed layout using the "Christmas Town" papers! Love that one.. Just sharing what I was able to come up with using those papers mixed in with some 7 Gypsies products...
