Book of Mediums

Book of mediums... does that sound fancy? Or Eerie??! Well it was a project I came up with after Aussie Scrapsource asked their team to create upcycled projects. I save a lot of the fabric clothing tags and the backing sheets of papers and I wanted to use those.

I love mixed media, and I have a tendency to hoard these stuff. Some I get to use, some end up as display items on my desk. I would try it on a few times on scrap paper to see how it looks, then I throw it away! Next time I want to use it, I already forgot how it looked. So I thought to create a tag book from the backing sheets I have been saving, turn it into tags, and cover it with some nice 7 Gypsies paper. After that, I just painted, smeared, splattered, embossed, layered etc etc the art mediums I had on storage. This is the outcome...

the lovely fabric and twine you see are from clothing tags (Bessie you gave those to me! Thanks!!).

And this is how some of the inside pages look like.

A few close-up shots of the texture finishes I was able to make...

now this is my favorite... I love distress embossing powders... I embossed each butterfly with diferent embossing powders. Now I can tell excatly what colors I have and how it looks once heat embossed.

This project was so fun to do! You should try it. It's so liberating! No design principles to think of... just pure creativity and fun!

Fancy Pants "Beach Babe" and "Beach Bum"

So summer pictures are starting to pile up and I know I just had to start working on some of my girl's pictures. Fancy Pants Designs came up with some really great summer themed collections and here is a page I made with the BEACH BABE collection...

Of course they also released a boy line called "BEACH BUM"! I don't have boys but the bright reds, blues, and oranges of this collection went great with my daughter's pool pictures...

It's a hot hot summer for us here in Manila, but we are enjoying it! Hope everyone is having a great time! Thanks for your visit!

Using Dies for Kit Layouts...

As promised, here are the layouts I was able to create from the Kits De Somni March Kit. I have been asked a few times how I work with kit projects (since I like to add a lot of embellishments) without having to buy several add-on kits... my answer - "I use my dies"!

You can see in the detail shots here that I used several dies here to cut chipboard and patterned paper. It really helps to add a lot of dimension and additional design elements to my pages.

Kits De Somni

I finally finished my projects for the guest designer stint at Kits de Somni and I'd like to share now the ambum that I was able to complete with their very generous kit...

Tomorrow I will post the three layouts I made from the same kit. So sorry for the almost no words, all pictures post. I'm just really really loaded with commitments now.

"It's The Little Things" Journaling Notes

Fancy Pants is back with beautiful lines complete with fabulous embellishments. "It's The Little Things" is my favorite release of theirs to date. This week, the DT featured the "journaling embellishments" and here is my contribution...

"I love that the journaling embellishments have been designed in such a way that it both functions as a journaling spot and as a design element as well. In this layout, I show how several journaling pieces combined with some carefully chosen chipboard makes a base for the design of the page. I also used one of the journaling cards as a frame for my picture. There is almost no patterned paper here (except for the cut-out flower at the top), but the note cards are able to provide enough visual interest to the page. The addition of dimensional embellishments such as flowers and buttons finishes the page."

New Lily Bee and Studio Calico Kit

Having a sister must be so fun. I don't have one so I'm really happy that my daughters get to have that experience. Cheska loves her big sister dearly and Nicole loves her little sister just as much.

Lily Bee's new "This and That" collection focuses on "sisters" and "friendship". I love this sticker with this quote...

 

Here is one of Cheska's wacky moments... She took the stool from the study and art set of her sister Nicole and made it into her own imaginary umbrella!

I used the "Singing In The Rain" April kit of Studio Calico for this one.

I love chips!

Yup, I love chips... I'm addicted to them - the ones you can eat (i.e. Lays, Pringles, etc.) and the ones you can not (i.e. DUSTY ATTIC CHIPBOARD!). In the interest on keeping this blog focused on the art of scrapbooking, I'll just blog about the ones you can't eat ok. :)

So here we go, I got some lovely hinges from Dusty Attic and I used it in this layout I made for Webster's Pages featuring the gorgeous "Ladies and Gents" Line.

Here's another layout with DA chips... papers from 7 Gypsies "Lille" and October Afternoon "Seaside". Die-cut shapes from The Girl's Paperie. The row of houses and the buttons are from Dusty Attic.
