I used to have an all white space with junk and mismatched colors thrown here and there. Last month I thought of fixing up my space by adding a couple of metal drawers from Ikea. I have three of those in white and thought of buying two more. Problem was, the white ones were all out of stock and they only had red and grey ones. I decided to go with the red ones and the change all started from those two new red metal drawers...
my old work area...
to this...
Big difference I think! It looks brighter, organized, and much easier to clean up too.
I'm sure you know by now that my work area is in the corner of our bedroom. So it's really important that I keep it clean and organized.
I used to have my wooden stamps displayed on the corner shelves. It does look pretty all in view but it is so hard to clean the shelves. I would have to take it down one by one, wipe off the dust from the shelves and the stamps, then put it back again one by one. These desk orgaziners from Ikea are a life saver. Much easier for me to store my stamps and clean my space too.
I use my distress inks all the time so I make sure to have these in view and within easy reach all the time.
These two white mini shelves are actually for quickutz dies. It fits the distress inks perfectly so I used it to house my inks, paints, glazes, etc... I got those from Lasting Impression.
These are my favorite finds in the street market near our place. Jewelry organizers turned into glass covered cases for my tapes and favorite embellishment packs.
The boxes are great for adding color and design to my area. Plus my flowers and other stamps are easily stored there as well.
The clear acrylic shelves keep my bits and pieces and left over embellishments from kits and collection packs. The black and white fit form was a purchase I made in Malaysia when my friend Michelle Ku took me out shopping. I love it. It holds small metal embellishments and my favorite mediums. The rest of my mediums are kept in another cabinet.
The box on top holds my mists.
some of my favorite flowers on display. The black shadow frame was repurposed into a container for some flowers. It has a sliding frame so it's easy to get flowers from it if I need to use some on a project. It also doubles as an item for display in my area. I got the frame from the Yellow Violet House...
here is another favorite find... a jewelry organizer turned into a desk top organizer for my adhesives, inks, scissors, etc. Stuff that I use all the time in my projects.
back to my two lovely red drawers... a place for my cling stamps and punchers...
Here are the white ones... a place for embellishments, trims, etc.
The inside of my white cabinet... papers and clear stamps stored in the 7 Gypsies stamp holder...
paint dabbers stored in a wooden shelf... other stuff like my MM slice and Canon Selphy are kept here.. away from the dust and the playful hands of my two little girls:)
There you go! Hope you were able to pick up some tips on organizing your craft area. I can honestly say that the only expensive items in my work area are the Ikea metal drawers and the quickutz white mini shelves. Everything else are bargain finds from street markets and repurposed items. I also don't have much supplies as compared to most scrappers. I purge and purge all the time. I make a decision on the stuff that I am sure to use and those that are just sitting around in my area. I give those away through raks and prizes. It's really much easier to find the things that you need without all the clutter.
Oh one last thing, you may have noticed the small birdhouse from the old photo and the new photo of my work area. The bird cage used to be white and brown. Now it's red, white, and black. I will have a post soon about that.
Thanks for your visit!

P.S. I got so many comments on my facebook page about the room. I just wanted to let you know that it does not really cost that much to come up with an organized space. But you do need a bit of patience. Try to decide on a color scheme and stick to it. Your space will look brighter and prettier if you have a specific color scheme. That also helps when you shop for your stuff. I go to dollar stores, street markets, and buy only the things that I know will work for the area. If it's too expensive I let it go knowing that I will find a suitable alternative for it. Boxes are great. It's cheap and it contributes so much to the design and color of your space. Plus it hides all the mess:)
I really wanted to do this post cause I wanted to show you my friends and reader (who don't have a dedicated craft area yet) that you can have your own space at a budget cost even in a small area of your room.
