This is what Aussie Scrapsource wrote about my style..."Like many of our design team, Iris has a style that’s so unique we had trouble finding an already existing label for it.  But when you get down to it, it’s a whimsical style and she always includes lots of detail, so ‘Detailed Whimsy’ it is!"

If there is one thing you will notice about Iris' style - it is that it will always involve some fussy cutting, misting, and stamping. According to Iris, she just has to get it a little bit spritzed and smeared with colour to make it work for her. In this page, Iris made a scenic and whimsical page about her daughter's first Easter Egg Hunt.

 

The same detailed whimsical style can be seen here but in a more shabby vintage look...another one of Iris' favourite looks.  You can see some stamping, inking, embossing, and even an application of mediums like bead gels... 

 

 

 

Iris’ detailed whimsy style translated into a mini-album.  With two daughters Iris obviously gravitates towards feminine, pretty pages, soft colours and beautiful imagery.

Martha Stewart at Aussie Scrap Source

I have one big love affair with Martha Stewart Punchers. I use it to dress up my pages and add texture. A few sheets of patterned paper are transformed into beautiful shapes by these punchers.

When Aussie Scrap Source asked me to design with Martha Stewart products, I thought I was only going to be playing with punchers... to my surprise, Martha Stewart came up with these beautiful delicate gem encrusted vellum butterflies! It was a beauty in its own, but I glammed it up further by rubbing different coloured inks on the wings to create these colourful winged beauties adorning my page.

 

Weekend Inspiration at Aussie Scrapsource

Little Yellow Bicycle is the featured manufacturer at Aussie Scrapsource for this weekend. Here are two pages I made for this post.

Because the papers of the Elizabeth line had so much to offer, I chose to cut-out the patterns and use it to embellish this happy colourful page of my two daughters enjoying a day out in the sun with their pink bike. This collection also has the cutest ready-made embellishments, like the colourful bunting and the 3d butterflies.

Book of Mediums

Book of mediums... does that sound fancy? Or Eerie??! Well it was a project I came up with after Aussie Scrapsource asked their team to create upcycled projects. I save a lot of the fabric clothing tags and the backing sheets of papers and I wanted to use those.

I love mixed media, and I have a tendency to hoard these stuff. Some I get to use, some end up as display items on my desk. I would try it on a few times on scrap paper to see how it looks, then I throw it away! Next time I want to use it, I already forgot how it looked. So I thought to create a tag book from the backing sheets I have been saving, turn it into tags, and cover it with some nice 7 Gypsies paper. After that, I just painted, smeared, splattered, embossed, layered etc etc the art mediums I had on storage. This is the outcome...

the lovely fabric and twine you see are from clothing tags (Bessie you gave those to me! Thanks!!).

And this is how some of the inside pages look like.

A few close-up shots of the texture finishes I was able to make...

now this is my favorite... I love distress embossing powders... I embossed each butterfly with diferent embossing powders. Now I can tell excatly what colors I have and how it looks once heat embossed.

This project was so fun to do! You should try it. It's so liberating! No design principles to think of... just pure creativity and fun!

Reader's Challenge at Aussie Scrapsource

After the success of our reader’s challenges last year, Aussie Scrapsource decided to create more opportunities for the readers to share their layouts in the blog. 

Aussie Scrapsource is starting off the new year in the spirit of all things handmade and upcycled – with a ‘make it yourself’ challenge.  Each week, a new challenge will be issued to create a layout using different handmade items, and this week we introduce the series with the most fundamental of requirements for all our scrapbook pages, whatever our scrapping style – the background cardstock.

There is not one single piece of patterned paper in the sample I made above. I love stamps so much and I tried to put my stamp collection to good use by using it to create the background design in the cardstock as well as the artist trading cards which served as the base for my photo.

To create the background paper, I first misted the white cardstock in a shade of yellow and a shade of light brown. Next, I rubbed "Broken China" distress inks on random areas to get light blue greenish tones. I then inked my script stamp with "Frayed Burlap" distress ink and stamped on the paper while it was still moist. This allowed for the image to slightly blur and wick which is exactly what I wanted to achieve.

To create the ATC cards, I rubbed different colours of distress inks on my craft mat and used my stamps to pick up the ink from the craft mat. This resulted in two to three colours in my stamped images. Once the cards have dried, I applied "Pumice Stone" distress ink to deepen the tones and outline the edges of the ATCs.

Birdcages and 3d Rose Dies...

We are having a Christmas Countdown over at Aussie Scrapsource. Check out the Christmas projects being posted there.

I created this Christmas themed birdcage using only one sheet of glittered paper from the Anna Griffin Cecile collection plus Anna Griffin Calisto stickers. The paper came in a cream color with gold glitter. I just added distress inks on Fired Brick and Mustard seed to add color to the paper which was then used to cover the roof of the Twiddleybitz birdcage, and to create the pretty paper roses.

 

I used a sizzix bigz die to make the paper roses. Special thanks to Yellow Violet House for the die!

This is a page I created with a mix of old and not so new products from 7 Gypsies. I have most of their papers and embellishments. The designs are classic and will never go out of trend. I guess I really am a Gypsy girl at heart.

Just sharing...

First of all, I'd like to thank all of you wonderful people who visit my blog and leave such sweet comments. I'm so sorry if lately, I have not been able to visit you back. I'm really just knee deep (neck deep even!) into deadlines and all. I promise to get back to my normal self once things get a little lighter. Not complaining at all... work is work... and work is good.

Ok so first up is the Tim Holtz inspiration over at Aussie Scrapsource.com. A lot of people think that Tim Holtz products are only for distressed, grungy, dark pages. Well, here is one girly and light page created with lots of Tim Holtz goodies (I love his stuff!!)
